"Baby" is a vocal by Canadian singer Justin Bieber, featuring American rapper Ludacris. It was released as the atomic number 82 single on Bieber'southward debut album, My World 2.0. The rail was written by Bieber, Ludacris, Christina Milian, Catchy Stewart (who worked with Bieber on a previous single "One Time"), and R&B vocaliser The-Dream, with production helmed by the latter 2.
It was available for digital download on January 18, 2010. The song received airplay direct later release, officially impacting mainstream and rhythmic radio on January 26, 2010. The song has received positive reviews from critics who complimented the song'due south effective lyrics and chorus and commended Ludacris' part and the vocal's ability to take an urban twist.
The song was a commercial success, peaking at number i in France and Scotland, and charting in the top ten of the Uk, Canada, the United States, Commonwealth of australia, Norway, Japan, Republic of ireland, Hungary, Kingdom of belgium (Flanders), Slovakia and New Zealand. "Babe" was the 4th most successful single of 2010 in French republic. The accompanying music video takes place in a mall/bowling-alley setting. The video features several cameos such as Drake, Lil Twist and Tinashe, in which Bieber chases after a daughter. Background and writing
"Babe" was written by Bieber with Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Terius "The-Dream" Nash, both of whom worked with Bieber on "I Fourth dimension", R&B vocalist and The-Dream's then-married woman Christina Milian and labelmate, Ludacris.[iv] When asked how the collaboration initially came well-nigh, Bieber said, "[Ludacris and I] both live in Atlanta. I met him a year prior to this and nosotros figured it was a perfect collaboration for him, and so we invited him out to practice it." Style and composition

Critical reception
Nick Levine of Digital Spy felt the vocal was "no great departure from what he'southward given us earlier", but felt the production of Tricky and The-Dream helped requite the song a "unproblematic", "big" chorus near "puppy love" that works.[12] Melanie Bertoldi of Billboard said, "The midtempo number's undeniably contagious chorus should keep Bieber's tween fan base satisfied, and Ludacris' brief cameo adds a welcome urban twist."[13] Bertoli went on to say, "The matchup adds a layer of maturity to Bieber's repertoire and should further solidify his growing presence on the charts."[xiii] Rap-Upward magazine said that "the sweetness pop fare gets a fiddling street cred courtesy of the teen sensation's labelmate Ludacris."[14] Jody Rosen of Rolling Stone appreciated the vocal's vintage doo-wop and fifties aesthetic and hip-hop chants, and said the vocal included "ane of the catchiest choruses concocted by the-Dream and Catchy Stewart, the duo behind "Umbrella" and "Single Ladies."[ten] Luke O'Neill of Boston Globe had mixed thoughts about the song calling Ludacris' cameo "goofy", and said, the song "effects a musical anachronism, albeit a catchy one, but in this sped-up recycling moment all styles all at in one case are grist for the mill."[fifteen]

In the United states of america, "Baby" debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, condign Bieber's highest-charting single in the Us. Music video

Bieber as well performed the song at the 2010 Kids Choice Awards on March 27.
